About This Project

HOUSING
Containers, squats, whole illegal neighborhoods, dormitory suburbs. And again shanties and derelict, rundown old town centers. In Italy, especially in the south, living conditions often express severe hardship, living on the borderline. A condition made even worse in this period of serious economic crisis and it is the weakest social classes who pay the price. Many families end up out of work and are forced to leave their homes and move into shanties or squats. This series of photographs is a journey into the drama of the housing emergency, which has hit the cities of Milan, Rome, Naples, Afragola, Bari, Palermo, Messina and Catania. The places are the real protagonists. The individual human stories are timidly revealed through objects, colors and shapes in the rooms in these homes.
